Healthy habits make a good personality. Developing a healthy habit requires some strategies to be followed. It is relatively easier to develop a new habit if you know these strategies. Don't worry this post is dedicated to these strategies.
Here are the 10 strategies to develop a new healthy habit.
1) Find your interests
This is the first step. Before developing a habit you need to find your interest. You need to find things that you love doing again and again. Finding interests is not an easy task but you can find it by using some tips and tricks. The best way to find what you are interested in is to keep trying new things. Read newspapers, magazines, articles, blogs, etc to learn about new things. Question everything to keep yourself away from doubts. Talk to different people having different professions, ages, cultures, and lifestyles. Talk to friends and find out what they do in their spare time. Try something new every day even if it's small. You can ride a bicycle, go for a walk, drink fruit juice, brush your teeth twice a day, keep your surroundings clean, wake up early in the morning, etc.
Once you find your interest you will feel confident, empowered, self-satisfied, and less stressed. After all, there is no better feeling than finding the things you love doing.

2) Set your goals
After you find your interests you need to set your goals. Suppose, if you are interested in fitness then your goals must be walking, running, doing exercise, gymming, participating in a marathon, etc.
Don't set goals that are extremely difficult to achieve because there is a high possibility you will not be able to achieve it. Set goals that are practically achievable in the required amount of time. Your goals must be clearly defined. Write down your goals on paper in simple words. Instead of writing, "I want to lose lots of weight", write "I want to lose 2 kg in one month".
Once your goal is clearly written, you need to make a plan of how and when to do it. This will give you the right direction. But, make sure your professional life doesn't get affected by it. And remember, hard work alone doesn't give you success but hard work in the right direction gives you success.

3) Define daily tasks
Divide your goal into smaller daily tasks. These smaller tasks must be achievable to keep yourself motivated. Every night review how you did today and on the basis of it decide what needs to be done tomorrow. So, when you will be doing the task the next day you won't have to think too much about the task. Your focus will be more on doing the task, rather than thinking about what needs to be done.
Use a calendar and write down your daily tasks. This will help you to know whether you are going in the right direction or not.

4) Progressively increase
It starts becoming a habit once you start doing it. Progressively increase the daily task. If you want to lose fat and your goal is to walk 10000 steps a day then start small. Start it with 1000 steps a day then set a target of 1% more i.e, 1010 steps for the next day. Then again increase it by 1%. Within a few months, you will reach 10000 steps a day without feeling the pressure and pain. This strategy works because instead of thinking about your goal of 10000 steps you are thinking of doing 10 more steps the next day. You are not thinking about the complete goal but a small portion of it.
This greatly reduces the mental pressure, promotes a sense of accomplishment and you will enjoy doing it.

5) Stay on Track
Keep a diary and write down how you did every day. Use measurable units to preciously keep track of your goals. If you want to make a habit of running then write down the number of footsteps or distance in km or miles. If you want to develop reading habits then write how many lines or pages you read.
Manage your time and achieve your goals with consistency. Make a winning streak of completing daily goals. Have a deadline for completion to stay focussed on your daily goals. Keep yourself motivated by doing things differently. Talk to friends and family about it, they may give you new ideas or suggestions.
Change your schedule to become more efficient. If you don't get time reading in the evening then try doing it either early in the morning or after dinner.

6) Allow your downtime
You may feel disappointed when you unable to complete your daily task. It is normal to feel so as you didn't achieve what you had expected. It's okay to miss your goals. Don't punish yourself and don't feel guilty for not achieving. As no one is perfect and failure is bound to happen. Learn from your failures, find out what went wrong and how you can avoid it in the future. For example, if you have not achieved your goal of walking 5000 steps every day then you can reduce it to 4000 steps for the next day. Another approach would be to take a few steps during TV commercials, use stairs instead of elevators or lift.
This will greatly reduce stress, lightens your mood, and keeps your morale high.

7) Reward yourself
Reward gives happiness, positive feeling, and reduce stress. Give yourself a reward after achieving your goals. It keeps you motivated, boosts self-esteem, and develops a positive attitude.
When you have put in a lot of effort and give yourself an award you will have a feeling of "I deserve it". No one will understand the effort you have put in except you. So, don't expect someone to come and give an appreciation for your hard work. It is your responsibility to reward yourself and keep yourself motivated.
Rewards can be big or small depending on whether you have achieved something bigger or smaller goals. You can reward yourself by going out for dinner at your favorite restaurant, going for a massage, going on a road trip, doing shopping, or watching your favorite movie.

8) It gets easier with time
When you start a new habit you may face difficulties early on. This is because your body takes time to adapt to new changes. It gets easier with time if you continue doing it. You need to keep patience and give yourself time.
After a few days or weeks, you will get used to it and it will come naturally. You will become stronger by not giving up.
Stop spending too much time on things that aren't important. These things can be social sites, games, porn, tv serials, web series, etc. Reduce your time on these things if you can't quit them.
Don't desire for a quick result as fruits on a tree don't grow overnight. It takes time to grow to its full strength and capabilities.

9) Internal Motivation
Stop relying on other people to motivate yourself because others will not understand the importance of your goals for you. Whenever we face difficulties we always look for motivational videos or books for motivation. This may help in the short-run but it fails to keep us motivated in the long run. We must look for a motivational source that has a long-lasting effect. The source is within us. It is the internal motivation that has a long-lasting effect.
Internal motivation builds up when we face hard times. Guilt, sorrow, failure, suffering, tears, etc are some of the emotional experiences that help in building the motivation within us. These experiences make us stronger. They give us enough strength by using which we can achieve anything.
External motivation is good if there is a need to motivate a group of people whereas, internal motivation is good to motivate oneself.

10) Enjoy
There are some things that are bound to happen in your life and we can't control them like going to school, college, or office. You can't change them and can't run away from them. But there are some other things that you can control and change in a way you want. These are things like playing sports, going for a walk, going for a vacation, exploring new places, exercising, gardening, reading books, meditation, yoga, etc. You have control over these things. You can do these things the way you want to make yourself happy and satisfied.
Invest in yourself and learning a new skill. This will unlock new possibilities from which you were unaware of before. You will improve and make your life better. You will upgrade yourself and become a better version of yourself.

Bottom line
Small daily improvements are the key to achieving long term bigger goals. When we develop a healthy habit, then this habit will give us a healthy lifestyle.
Find your interest, start small, review your progress, keep yourself internally motivated, and enjoy.
